Prof. Abdelmonem Himmat – Sudan (Head of the Literary Criticism Department)

is a Professor of Philosophy and Qur’anic Exegesis and serves as Head of the Literary Criticism Department. He is Vice President of Al-Wefaq International University (Niger), Professor of Philosophy and Exegesis at the Franco-Arab African University (Mali), and a former lecturer at Royal Court Affairs in the Sultanate of Oman. He has extensive cultural and media experience as a translator and program producer at Sudan TV, a producer-presenter at Hawa Sudan Radio, an editorial board member of FOCUS ON AFRICA (Italy), and a political analyst on several television channels. His books include The Defeat of the Intellectual or the Defeat of Culture, The Philosophical Method of Sultan Qaboos, The Epistemology of the Islamic State in Sudan, and Ibn Sīnā’s Philosophical Tendency in Interpreting the Qur’an. His studies include “Political Islam in Sudan between Ikhwanism and Khomeinism” (Al-Mesbar Center), in addition to numerous thought pieces in Al-Arab newspaper and other Arab outlets. His research interests span philosophy and cultural criticism; issues of identity, religion, and the state; and socio-political transformations in Sudan and the Gulf. His honors include the Excellence Award from Royal Court Affairs (Oman), the Sharjah Award for Creativity and Scientific Excellence, and recognitions from Dhofar Municipality, the Oman Ministry of Civil Service, and the Cultural Adviser to Sultan Qaboos. He leads the Criticism Branch with an approach that balances scholarly rigor with clear public-facing discourse and firm professional standards in reading and evaluation.
